Bury Tavern hosts college night for SU students

Bury Tavern opened last spring in hopes of bringing a “country western” vibe to the downtown area.

Co-owner Colby Bounds said he wants to start hosting a college night for students to bring in business and create a lively scene for students during the weekends.

“When we opened up at first, we went through the honeymoon phase,” Bounds said. “But once summer hit, downtown was dead since a lot of students and others go to the beach.”

Bounds recognizes that other bars around the campus do very similar college nights and wants to add to the night scene.

“We had our first college night this past Thursday since we know Brew River hosts events Thursday nights,” Bounds said. "We’re definitely not looking to beat the competitors, but we want to add another stop for students while they’re on this side of town.”

College night would be every Thursday starting at 8 p.m. until close with specials on drinks such as $2 Natural Light and Bud Light drafts as well as a DJ.

They are also considering doing theme nights in hopes of attracting more students.

“Theme is something that we could do too because every time you have a different theme people get into that kind of stuff,” Bounds said. “Mackys does a theme every Tuesday night and every time it brings a big crowd.”

Bury Tavern also hosts other fun weekend events such as live music on Friday nights starting at 6 p.m.
