Salisbury Club baseball has made a significant impact since registering through CSIL in 2015. They were most recently the NCBA New Penn Champions just a year ago and are six-time conference champions since formation.
The club offers a unique opportunity for students to bond and play baseball at a competitive level or a chance at a reset for some. Griffin Harvey, a recent alumni and former player, spoke on the topic.
“I feel like a lot of people who play club have a chip on their shoulder because they either had a bad high school or college experience or got emotionally worn down due to toxic team politics.” He explained.
“it’s a great way to network and meet people.”
Dean Carr is a fourth-year player and infielder. He appreciates club baseball for giving him a chance to keep playing at a high level, and the lessons that have come from the experience.
“Joining taught me that joining any club in college helps you meet lifelong friends. Baseball doesn’t have to be over after high school,” he explained.
The club has evolved to become active in the community, with players volunteering as umpires in local little leagues around the area. Team chemistry is everything for a club team, especially in baseball.
“It’s extremely important. It helps the vibes and atmosphere of the team. I feel like when everyone is clicking, the team is going to support each other,” Harvey said.
Harvey looks back on his time with club baseball fondly. He stays in close contact with the team and recalls some of his favorite memories.
“Personally, my favorite memory playing was having a catch that saved our pitcher’s (Ryan Corbin) complete game,” he said.
“I really enjoyed the road trips we would take to Virginia Schools”
The team plays it’s next three game series against James Madison University at home at Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex this weekend. You can keep up with the program HERE.
