Salisbury University's student-run club ‘The Knights of Bury’ was brought to life five years ago. The club has grown into a staple on campus, offering students the opportunity to come together and bond over many shared interests, the main one being Star Wars.
The Knights of Bury Vice President, Isaiah Matthews, says the club meets every Thursday from about 8-11 pm at various locations across campus, including The Square, The Quad and Sea Gull Square Lawn.
The Knights of Bury are no strangers to the spotlight. In the 2024 edition of "SU Got Talent," the club secured first place.
“[Our] motivation to win was driven by our loss from the previous year. We wanted to show improvement,” Matthews said.
The club’s new enhanced choreography, including the surprise appearance of Darth Vader, wowed the crowd and was a surprise that secured them the first place spot. Isaiah, club Vice-President, adds that in addition to the talent show, the club actively participates in campus events like Admitted Students Day, Relay for Life, and Nest Fest. Whether requested by the university or through their own outreach, the Knights continue to bring their Star Wars-inspired performances to life across the campus.

Isaiah emphasized the club’s heavy focus on the built sense of community. They often hold Knighting Ceremonies, where new members are officially welcomed into the club.
“The ceremony, held at different predetermined locations on campus, such as the gazebo or pergola, involves the president knighting new members with the dark saber while reciting a line from the Star Wars universe.”
Additionally, the club works to build this sense of community and teamwork through collaborations with other campus organizations. Isaiah describes their tradition of working with Greek life, like with the sorority Zeta Tau Alpha (ΖΤΑ), particularly through events such as their annual ‘Basket Deliveries.’
Like many student organizations, the Knights of Bury face challenges in maintaining membership. Matthews describes how the club has a “strong core group of 5-6 members,” who all help work towards attracting and retaining newcomers. Current members and leadership ensure new members have many opportunities to perform, contributing to their inclusive atmosphere.

The club has its eyes set on its next major event: May the 4th’s Attack of the Commons and its upcoming performance at Relay for Life. Matthews describes these events as “performances [that] will feature choreographed lightsaber battles, trailers, and much more.”
Overall, Matthews emphasizes that newcomers are always welcome to join and see what the club is all about.
