It is officially that time of year.

Students are back on campus, filling the lively grounds and classrooms of SU with backpacks and chatter.

The first week of classes is special for lots of SU students. Many look forward to the start of a new school year, different classes and reconnecting with friends.

Sophomore Abby Mannix is one of those students. Mannix said she recently changed her major to elementary education, making this semester particularly exciting.

“I’m very excited to see what the program has to offer and to meet a bunch of new people in my new classes,” Mannix said.

This year is especially significant, as it marks 100 years since SU opened its doors to students. According to Salisbury University Libraries, Holloway Hall opened in 1925 as a two-year college for elementary teachers. The first class consisted of 105 students. Holloway Hall was where all students learned, ate and lived.

SU has grown substantially since 1925, expanding its programs and offering new opportunities for every sea gull. A new year brings a fresh start for everyone - especially freshmen.

Freshman Will Louro said he has been looking forward to coming to college for as long as he can remember. He said he is excited to finally step away from high school and enter a new chapter of adulthood.

“High school was very little kid stuff and now I get to learn all the cool stuff,” Louro said. “I am also excited to meet all these new people and to finally be away from home for the first time.”

The Flyer wishes all SU students and faculty a fantastic school year. See @salisburyflyer on Instagram to learn more information on how to become involved in The Flyer.
