SU Women’s Basketball is looking to make a statement this upcoming season.
The team recently unveiled their schedule with their home opener just around the
corner. The Sea Gulls take on Washington College on November 8, their first of nine home games in the campaign.
Nicole Miller is a third-year guard for the Sea Gulls who has developed into a key contributor for the squad. She improved her shooting percentage in both three-point attempts and free throws since debuting for the Sea Gulls during the 2023-24 season and has big aspirations for the team this year.
“We were able to get a first round bye in the C2C tournament last year, so the next step is trying to get to the championship and win,” Miller said.
The team culture stresses the importance of having each other's back. Trusting your teammates is essential to team chemistry.
“We are a team, and the best teams are the ones like family. Having that chemistry with each other will make the tougher times easier.”
“A big emphasis we have is horizontal leadership," she explained. “It doesn't matter if you're a senior or a freshman.
“We want everyone's voice to be heard.”
The team is as physically prepared as they are mentally, with a huge emphasis on conditioning and strength training before the season officially kicks off.
Conference play can be a grind, with frequent tournaments and familiar opponents. Miller stresses the importance of mental and physical health.
“Our approach is to stay focused and keep energy high, being able to take care of our bodies, eat, sleep, stretch and recover,” she said.
The team keeps up with their academics and time management is crucial.
They have check-ins with coaches and a team study hall available as well to help the team thrive off of the court and in the classroom.
The Sea Gulls are laser focused on a championship, and you can follow the team’s journey to the coast-to-coast athletic conference in February.
