Salisbury football prepares for return to NCAA Tournament

For the first time since 2015, the Salisbury University football team is going dancing.

The Sea Gulls' return comes in impressive fashion, as they finished the year with an unblemished 9-0 record and the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship.

Salisbury has an 8-10 record all time in the NCAA Tournament.

SUNY Maritime College will be facing the undefeated Gulls. The Privateers finished their season with a 5-5 overall record and a 3-2 conference record, claiming the automatic bid from the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC).

This will be the second trip to the national tournament for the Privateers.

Salisbury head coach Sherman Wood said the regular season success goes out the window as the preparation for the tournament wraps up this week.

"We got here for a reason," Wood said. "But there's no tomorrow, and that's the mindset that we have absolutely got to have."

Sophomore quarterback Jack Lanham has led the Sea Gull offense to the eighth-best scoring offense in Division III.

Lanham said the connection between the guys in the locker room has helped them find success and have fun on the field.

"The culture of our team is really good this year," Lanham said. "We're all really just great friends, and when you enjoy coming out to practice, especially in the cold, that usually leads to great results."

The NCAA first-round contest is set to begin at 12 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
