After losing in the 2019 national championship game, the Salisbury University women’s lacrosse team is ranked at No. 3 in the nation in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Preseason Poll.
The poll, which was released on Monday, has Salisbury just three points behind second-place Tufts University. Middlebury College, which secured the 2019 national championship over Salisbury, was the unanimous pick for the top spot in the rankings.
Gettysburg College and Wesleyan University (Conn.) were slotted at fourth and fifth, respectively. Salisbury’s familiar Capital Athletic Conference foe York College was placed at number six.
The Sea Gulls are entering the year following an impressive 2019 campaign. Salisbury finished with a 20-4 record and an unblemished 6-0 record in CAC play.
This season, Salisbury faces 11 teams currently ranked in the preseason poll. The team will face six consecutive ranked opponents in March.
Five of these ranked contests will also be battles of top-10 teams in the poll, highlighted by a bout with No. 4 Gettysburg on March 11.
The SU women’s lacrosse squad kicks off its season on the road against Stevenson University on Feb. 15, with the home opener coming against No. 10 The Catholic University of America on Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
