Three Salisbury University varsity athletic squads remain perched atop national rankings halfway through the spring season, with another soaring just behind.
SU men’s lacrosse retained command of the Nike/USA Lacrosse Top 20 Poll rankings in its latest update Monday. The Sea Gulls entered 2022 as the poll’s preseason national championship favorites.
Defending titleholder Salisbury women’s lacrosse also began the season as the highest-rated squad in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Preseason Poll across the country’s Division III women’s programs. SU has since been overtaken by undefeated Middlebury College as the poll’s top squad, though the Sea Gulls have held steady as the nation’s second-ranked program.
SU softball entered 2022 in pursuit of its first national championship as an eighth seed in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 Coaches Poll.
The Sea Gulls quickly struck fire behind the success of several veteran leaders, including Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week Lindsey Windsor.
Salisbury softball climbs the nation’s top programs in the second spot of the latest NFCA rankings.
National champion SU baseball adversely sunk from the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Poll favorite to just outside the country’s top ten in the NCBWA Division III Top 25 poll after stumbling through its opening week of action.
The Sea Gulls recently continued their comeback campaign, remaining undefeated through the squad’s previous four contests.
