On September 14th, the Salisbury University Sea Gulls won its second home game of the season against Muhlenberg University with a final score of 59 to 38. The Sea Gulls haven't lost yet this season, also winning on September 7th against Washington & Lee with a score of 48 to 26.

With Salisbury making the first touchdown and extra point of the game within the first five minutes, the Sea Gulls excited everyone in the crowd at SU for what was to be a high-scoring game. Salisbury would go on to lead against Muhlenberg for the rest of the game, ending the first half with a nine point lead and going on to win the game by 21 points.

Nate Braun, the Fan Engagement Coordinator for Salisbury University Athletics, shared that the game was more than a typical college football game but was also a fundraiser. “Today is actually our Special Olympics day for the football team. Currently... Special Olympics of Lower Shore Maryland is downstairs doing the silent auction as a fundraiser. So, this is really a fundraising game...." Nate used to be an assistant coach but now has other responsibilities in the athletics department. “I track all of our volunteer efforts...and local organizations and I also run the scene of the seagull mascot program."

The Poms dance team and cheerleading squad also performed during halftime. The two-time co-captain of SU’s Poms, Lyla Zelenkn, spoke on the audition and training process required to be on the team. “We do auditions once in the Fall and once in the Spring. This year it was after the first day of classes.... We basically teach them a dance and they audition it [for us.] We have practice Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.“ Lyla encouraged all those interested to try out for the team and shared the potential benefits. "[This is the] most people we've had on the team in years.... Always go for it, it’s a great way to stay involved... stay active and workout. We had a pancake party today... it’s just a fun way to meet new people.”

Zoe Romero, an SU cheerleader who is also a Sophomore, was also hopeful for the cheerleaders this year. “...I think this year has shown a lot more changes from last year.... [Last year] we weren’t on the field [and] we weren’t doing our crazy pyramid stuff."

The athletics department at Salisbury was excited for the rest of the season and for good reason following the Sea Gulls first victory away yesterday. The Sea Gulls defeated #8 Johns Hopkins, this time by 28 points to remain undefeated. For the first time since 2019, the Sea Gulls start their season with three straight wins.
